SOLICITATION OF PROSTITUTION

Being arrested for solicitation of prostitution (that is, patronizing or attempting to patronize the services of a prostitute) is illegal in California. It can also be a particularly embarrassing and humiliating experience. Because of the social stigma attached to prostitution – including neighborhood blight and risk of transmission of sexually transmitted disease – this crime is often vigorously prosecuted. A conviction for solicitation of prostitution can carry substantial fines and up to a year of incarceration in the county jail.
