Drug Possession for Personal Use

Possession of drugs for personal use in California is a criminal offense. The gravity of the offense (whether it will be charged as a felony or misdemeanor) depends on the type of drug you are accused of having possessed. Being in possession of cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, or designer drugs will typically result felony charges. Marijuana (cannabis) possession will usually incur misdemeanor charges.

Our Los Angeles criminal defense lawyers have a combined experience of more than 50 years defending persons accused of drug possession for personal use.  Bruce McGregor and Robert Ernenwein, are former Los Angeles Deputy District Attorneys. Robert Ernenwein, one of our Co-founders, is Certified as a Criminal Law Specialist by the California State Bar Board of Legal Specialization.. Robert Ernenwein and Bruce McGregor have been named "Super Lawyers" by Los Angeles Magazine.  Lorgio Coimbra successfully represented a wrongfully-accused client against drug charges at trial.  Robert Ernenwein has appeared as a legal analyst on multiple cable news programs, including Fox News. The experience and capabilities of the lawyers at McGregor & Ernenwein are unmatched.

Our extensive experience and knowledge give us the tools we need to successfully challenge drug possession charges.

How We Can Help You Stay Out of Jail:

There are numerous defenses available when it comes to alleged drug crimes.  Our experienced Los Angeles defense attorneys will review your case to determine if there is insufficient evidence to substantiate the charges.

As our client, we will focus on getting your charges dropped or reduced.  We have been able to obtain lesser penalties for our clients, to keep them out of jail.  For example, we will look into your eligibility for the following:

- Drug diversion
- Deferred entry of judgment
- Drug treatment under Proposition 36
- Probation
- Private drug treatment program
- County or state run drug treatment program
- Other alternative sentences

We Can Motion the Court to Suppress the Evidence Agianst You, Leading to Dismissal or Reduction of Your Case:

There is a host of issues our Los Angeles Criminal Defense Lawyers can evaluate based on our analysis of the police reports, witness statements and other evidence on file. There may be issues of illegal search and seizure and/or other constitutional violations which may help us successfully motion the court to suppress the evidence seized against you. Many of these motions are "dispositive," meaning that their outcome may determine whether the case against you even goes forward. Depending on the facts of your case, we, may be able to construct powerful defenses on your behalf, ultimately leading to pretrial dismissal of your charges or acquittal at trial.
