Dismissal of Petty Theft Charge out of Compton Juvenile Courthouse

On December 20th, 2010, our office was able to secure dismissal of a petty theft charge out of the Los Angeles Superior Court, Compton Courthouse.  Our client is a young lady, charged as a juvenile, who was accused of having shoplifted from a department store. The case was filed as a felony. Our attorney was able to reduce the matter from a felony to a misdemeanor upon oral motion. Further, our attorney motioned the court to place the client under "diversion" per California Welfare and Institutions Code Section 654 so that no plea would have to be entered to the petty theft charge, effectively resulting in the dismissal of the case. The court granted the motion and our client, a young lady with a bright future ahead of her, was spared the misery of a criminal record and potential jailtime.
